Vascular surgery

Vascular surgery focuses on the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the blood vessels – arteries, veins and capillaries. The aim is to improve blood flow by treating narrowing, blockages or other damage to the blood vessels, which can cause serious health problems. These include cardiovascular disease, stroke or problems with the lower limbs.

Varicose veins occur mostly on the calves and thighs, but they can also develop on the arms. Symptoms associated with venous diseases include swelling of the legs, pain, cramps, leg heaviness, tiredness and itchy skin.

You can consult our vascular surgeon for both medical and cosmetic concerns

Causes of venous diseases:

  • inherited vascular conditions
  • prolonged standing (‘standing work’ – retailers, service staff)
  • sedentary lifestyle
  • pregnancy
  • obesity

Procedures

Phlebectomy

Saatekiri vajalik
Liivalaia

Surgical removal of superficial varicose veins; the procedure is carried out using local anaesthesia.

Miniflebectomy

Saatekiri vajalik
Liivalaia

The procedure is used for visible varicose veins. During the surgery, the affected vein is extracted through incisions of around 1 mm. The incisions are very small, so it will not leave any scars on the legs. The surgeon uses local anaesthesia. The patient is allowed to move after the procedure, but must wear compression garment post-surgery.

Vein sclerotherapy

Saatekiri vajalik
Liivalaia

The procedure is used primarily for treating superficial varicose veins. During this treatment, the medicine is injected into the vein causing the vein to close off. As a result, the blood begins to flow through healthy veins. After the procedure, patient must wear compression garments (e.g. stockings, tights, knee-highs).
