A mammologist is a woman’s doctor, who focuses on the diagnosis, surgical treatment and follow-up care of benign and malignant breast conditions.

What conditions does a gynecologist treat?

  • Gynecological problems and disorders: endometriosis, polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), uterine fibroids and gynaecological infections, etc. 
  • Termination of pregnancy and intrauterine contraceptive devices: initial prescription of hormonal contraception or insertion/removal of an intrauterine contraceptive device; termination of pregnancy (using medication). 
  • Pregnancy planning and infertility treatment: gynecologists can help with planning for pregnancy and offer treatment options for those experiencing infertility. 
  • In cases of suspected benign or malignant breast conditions (mammology).
