Private Clinics Medicum and Fertilitas Join Forces

Medicum Group is expanding its surgical expertise and treatment capabilities by acquiring AS Fertilitas — a long-established and well-recognised private clinic in the fields of otorhinolaryngology, gynaecology and surgical care. With the addition of Fertilitas, Medicum will gain four specialised outpatient care locations as well as a modern hospital with an operating theatre unit in Viimsi. All nine Medicum and Fertilitas locations in Tallinn, Harju County and Tartu will remain open for patients.

Member of the Management Board of Fertilitas, Dr Lauri Maisvee, and Member of the Supervisory Board, Dr Indrek Seire, will continue at Medicum both in clinical roles as physicians and in leadership positions. Alongside them, the entire 180-member Fertilitas team will join the Medicum Group, bringing the total workforce of the group to more than 700 employees.

Following the transaction, Medicum will be a healthcare provider focused on developing integrated care pathways and innovative treatment solutions, and the largest contractual partner of the Health Insurance Fund among private healthcare providers in specialised medical care, offering diagnostic and treatment services across 18 medical specialties.

According to Tõnis Allik, Member of the Management Board of Medicum Group, the joining of forces creates strong cooperation:
“With the addition of Fertilitas, we are creating strong synergy between several of our treatment areas, as our competencies in surgical specialties, rehabilitation and radiology complement each other. We have worked closely together for years, and this merger is a logical step. Together, we are the preferred private clinic in rehabilitation, gynaecology and otorhinolaryngology, and we have greater capacity to further develop all other specialties. We offer a supportive working environment and strong opportunities for professional development and self-realisation for our entire clinical team — doctors, nurses and other healthcare professionals,” said Tõnis Allik.

Dr Lauri Maisvee, Member of the Management Board of Fertilitas, emphasised that the decision to join Medicum Group is primarily aimed at ensuring the quality of care and sustainable development:
“Continuing within Medicum Group is a well-considered decision that enables greater investment in our people and more effective support for patients’ health. Healthcare is a rapidly evolving and resource-intensive field, where collaboration is a smart way to improve quality and remain competitive,” explained Dr Lauri Maisvee.

According to Maarja Pärs, Investment Director at Livonia Partners, the core shareholder of Medicum Group, strong and investment-capable organisations are playing an increasingly important role in the development of the healthcare sector:
“In the long term, those private healthcare providers that are able to invest in development, their teams and quality will remain sustainable. A strong private healthcare sector offers patients increasingly better choices and is an important part of the overall healthcare system,” said Maarja Pärs.

The transaction will enter into force following approval by the Competition Authority. The transaction is co-financed by SEB. The details of the transaction will not be disclosed by agreement between the parties.

All nine Medicum and Fertilitas locations will remain open for patients: in the city centre on the 5th floor of Stockmann department store and at the health centre at Pärnu mnt 113, in Lasnamäe on Punane Street, in Viimsi on Ravi Road, in Mustamäe at Sütiste Health Centre, in Pelgulinn on Ädala Street, in Peetri on Küti Road, in Maardu on Ristikheina Road, and in Tartu on Mõisavahe Street.
