Computed tomography scan (CT scan)

A computed tomography (CT) device is an x-ray machine connected to a computer, which allows for getting layered and 3D images of the human body. During a CT scan, X-rays pass through tissues in several directions, which are measured with detectors at several points. The received information is processed with a computer. The amount of radiation is higher than with a regular X-ray and, therefore, this procedure is performed only if medically indicated. In the case of pregnancy, the procedure is performed only in emergency situations. Doctor referral is required. Read more
